ChuChu

Character Design, Modelling & Texture

Inspired by my time teaching in China, Chuchu is a little girl whose answer to everything is “不要” or “I don’t want”. In a complete contradiction to her beautiful and expensive clothes, Chuchu’s hair is always in a state of disarray, and any attempts to tame her locks result in an “Ouch!” and a scowl. Chuchu lacks the enthusiasm to join the rest of her classmates in dancing and singing to songs, hence her bored and uninterested posture. This piece reflects the joyous, chaotic and challenging moments and it has been a joy to bring them to life through this vibrant and engaging character.

Initial Concepts

This rough character sketch was inspired by the contradiction between the sophisticated and expensive clothes many of my students adorn, and the unique personalities they present within the classroom.

Hair Style

This character’s hair is a visual representation of this contradiction. Using blenders geometry nodes and adding noise, fizz and curl, I created a fuzzy, messy style. A key component of this character.

TEXTURED

The textures applied to this character are intended to be a feast for the eyes. It doesn’t matter how beautiful her dress is, if Chuchu does not want to dance, she will not dance.

Final Pose

Popular amongst my students, this pose was often assumed when it was time to clean up our toys or take a nap, making it the ideal choice for this character and her story.
